Smiths Aerospace built on their Paris 2003 success with another innovative corporate presence for the 2004 SBAC show at Farnborough. With demonstration and hospitality areas all under one roof, visitors were encouraged to explore the pavilion and experience everything Smiths had on offer.

Flying Pixels provided the majority of the digital content for the multimedia displays, as well as the Pavilion walk-through animations used to train the sales team. Rapier Design Ltd came up with the bold and eye-catching layout, fulfilling the needs for reception areas, media presentation areas, quiet rooms for meetings and bar and restaurant facilities. Clients could watch the air show from the terrace and enjoy a full range of hospitality in comfortable surroundings.

The 3D model was built from architectural drawings and a plan of the airfield enabled Flying Pixels to show how the air display would look from the terrace bar and restaurant areas.

To ensure a smooth operation on show day it was important that sales staff were well trained beforehand. To help them know their way around the Pavilion, Flying Pixels was commissioned to build a virtual tour whilst the real Pavilion was being built. "The first morning of any tradeshow can be the most crucial for sales and if the team isn't ready then sales are easily lost" highlights Ed Bolton, Head of Business Development at Flying Pixels. "Giving the team a floor plan only goes part of the way and can easily lead to mistakes. 3D visualisation goes an extra step in aiding staff to be more knowledgeable and so more professional."

Adding 3D characters, animated by motion capture data, helps to give the Pavilion walk-through a very realistic feel. "Including animated characters in an architectural visualisation provides a convincing atmosphere enhancing the suspension of disbelief" concludes Bolton.
